When my driver edged up the narrow-inclined driveway of this very modern home, I didn’t know what to expect. But Pearle and her husband Ranjan greeted me with broad smiles and open arms. After they had retired, they built this sophisticated home on their family’s property. Since the terrain of Matale is mostly mountainous, their home is perched up high on a small hill, allowing a beautiful view of the city from their wide terrace. Communication was swift and efficient as their daughter fielded email questions from the UK. English was spoken perfectly by all members of the family, so no worries for any miscommunication. I had arrived in the late afternoon and Pearle offered me tea. Ranjan returned with some short eats and we sat around chatting. The conversation was easy and I felt like I was visiting good friends for the afternoon. My room was located just off their living room with an adjacent bathroom with contemporary fixtures – it felt like I was in a fancy hotel! The stylish room with extremely high ceilings was spacious and tastefully decorated with an enormous mosquito net tied with ribbons around the large four poster bed. There is a portable air conditioner/fan which was not really needed as the evenings are usually cool and temperate. Breakfast was a luxurious feast with red rice string hoppers, potato curry, dal, green gram and a delicious, spicy chicken curry. Watermelon, pineapple, and sweet juicy papaya from their garden rounded out the meal. After retirement, Pearle turned her interests to cooking and she is certainly an accomplished cook! My only regret was staying only one night and will certainly come back for a longer visit!

Our meals, specified to our requests, were vibrant and full in taste. Supun was very informative of the nature that surrounded us and what wonderful walks were within the vicinity in which he sorted out a local to take us in his tuktuk. If you are considering to stay here I could not recommend it more! Supun in his humble nature eluded to a 10% charity donation from the fee you pay to stay here, so if nothing sways your mind giving a little to charity surely does!!

An incredible place where you can sleep in luxury in the middle of the Sri Lankan jungle. The staff is wonderful and friendly, food was excellent. Everything's organic and fresh and homemade. So tasty!!! They their own cardamom ice cream, cardamom grows outside your room, as well as lemongrass and mini-guavas. Waking up to the breathtaking views of the Sri Lankan mountains, Going to sleep with the noises of the wet jungle- everything is an adventure in this place. (Watch out for bloodsucking leeches!) I did a half day trek up the knuckles range with their guide, thanks to him I was lucky to spot some leaf nose lizards. What a beautiful creature. Highly recommend this place.

The place at A Frame Riverston is really beautiful with hills, grasslands, and bushes all around. The weather was a bit cool, but the wind felt amazing. We could feel the breeze and enjoy the view. The area is very pretty and awesome. We had really good meals there, which made our stay even better. The food was delicious and added to the enjoyment of our trip. It was great to have such tasty meals while enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Overall, our stay was very pleasant because of the lovely weather, stunning views, and delicious food. We would love to visit again in the future.

Wir haben zwei wundervolle Nächte in der Lodge verbracht. Es hat alles super geklappt, wir sind am vereinbarten Ort mit einem TukTuk abgeholt worden und dann zu Lodge gefahren. Ein herrlicher, magischer Ort der Ruhe und Stille. Das mit einem wundervollen Team als Gastgebern ist einfach perfekt. Es wurde sich um alles gesorgt und der Kochkurs am zweiten Tag war unfassbar gut. Wir haben sehr viel über die Gewürze und das Kochen auf Sri Lanka gelernt. Toll! Eine super Unterkunft mit einem sehr hilfsbereiten und herzlichen Vermieter. Immer wieder gern! Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder :)

Everything! Amazing location with great views - we watched the sunset from our room. Staff were all very friendly and polite, very accommodating, we went during low season so we were the only guests and they arranged breakfast lunch and dinner whenever we wanted. All the food was delicious and such huge portions! One of the days we had a private guide drive us to various view points in the area and reception organised our taxi from the airport and to our next location and everything went very smoothly.
