PortugalThe Algara Hut is fantastic. The room, the surrounding area, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff (we arrived after 10 p.m. and they still made us dinner!). They were always kind and helpful. Even though they spoke little English, they made every effort to help us understand everything. It's close to the cable car that takes you up to Rila Mountain to the beautiful Rila Lakes trekking. Breakfast is served individually and we always find it delicious.

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Ema! The staff is great. The two women were extremely polite and accommodating! The breakfast was amazing- homemade Bulgarian breakfast that was enjoyed by the whole family!
The room was large, the beds and pillows were very comfortable.

I was in a period of no snow so my review will not affect...
I was in a period of no snow so my review will not affect the snow period. The Borovets area around hotel Rila is very interesting and great for walking. You can access the area very easily even without navigation - the roads are simple. The forest offers a very good vibe for walking and enjoying nature. There are few markets, restaurants, hotels, ski shops, clothes and gift shops so there is plenty of stuff to do. There are ski schools and different types of serving places for every need.
The only bad thing I would say are the sidewalks around streets and buildings - some of them seem very ruined and need reparation.

It is a magical remote location situated in an amazing forest.Clean, fresh air and beautiful forest of tall pine trees.
Very well maintained and cute surroundings. It is not exactly a village but a remote location with few mountain hotels .Perfect for hiking to the Seven Rilla Lakes or other less difficult hikes.You need a car for sure but there are also buses from Sofia passing through.The lift is far for a walking distance .It is around 6.5 km from there.

Great villa in silent area with fantastic view on the mountains and fields from the bedrooms, balcony and terrace. The villa is new , clean and very comfortable, equipped with everything you need and even more. Supermarkets, restrants are in 15 min drive, many walking trails around: Seven Lakes, Rila monastery, Borovets etc. And Lili the Host is amaizing: very friendly and helpful and available in any time.
Will definitely recommend this place and hope to come back again

The hotel was nice with great view and private parking.
The hotel was nice with great view and private parking. It's a great place for a city break. The food in the restaurant was nice.
What we didn't like was that the hot water in the hotel was not with optimal water temperature for a shower. At the reception they explained that they are using solar water heaters and these days the weather was cloudy. Hope that they are going to fix this in the future. :)

This is the iconic monastery of Bulgaria.
This is the iconic monastery of Bulgaria. It is free and well worth the visit. It should only take you about two hours to see the whole monastery. Make sure to out the back side of the monastery and buy some makitsa.

My family and I stayed in Borovets in early May, and even though the ski lift was out of service, we had a wonderful time. We explored several nature trails, like the scenic Beli Iskar path, which were perfect for family walks surrounded by stunning mountain views. The kids loved our horseback riding adventure through the Rila Mountains, and we easily spent a relaxing half-day at the hotel’s spa, unwinding in the pool and saunas. Borovets offered plenty of activities to keep us entertained, making it a great destination even outside ski season

Very friendly and helpful staff, great car parking, comfortable bed, good wifi, nice swimming pool (a little on the small side). Very good breakfast with a good choice of different options.
On the down side, no lift, no air-conditioning and a little deceptive to mention that the Rila Monastery was about 16km away...not CLEARLY mentioning that this is in a straight line. It is a one and a half hour drive..... 😔

There was enough to see at the monastary, even though most museums there seemed no to be open (it was February!). Entrance is free but be ready to pay 5 levs for parking (you do get all day for that).
The area has dramatic scenery with some other things to see other than just the Monastary.
We visited the grave of James Baucher and discovered why Sofia has a station named after this Irishman!

Nice slopes. Expensive hotels close to the slopes. But you can stay at any hotel and come up to the slope by car, 10..15 BGN the parking fee. The Rila hotel is cool (the indoors pool) but you need to plan in advance the stay. Also, if you do not have kids try to plan your stay when schools are not in vacation in Romania and/or England.
