- The staff was super nice! - Very close to the beach and to the train station. Easy to explore the region and even a bit of Poland (the train from Wolgast to Świnoujście passes every 30 minutes if I remember well). - Sanddorn sweets at the café.

Usedom Highlights

Pamper yourself at an imperial spa town

The vacation destinations of choice for German emperors, imperial spa towns are a great place to treat yourself. Check out Bansin, Ahlbeck or Heringsdorf.

Stroll down Heringsdorf Pier – Germany’s longest!

Heringsdorf Pier stretches more than a quarter mile out over the Baltic Sea. Built next to the site of its 1891 wooden predecessor, the pier features a restaurant with a pyramid-shaped roof.

See a WWII rocket testing site in Peenemünde

Peenemünde’s Historical-Technical Museum is where the first missile was ever launched into space. Today, it provides insights into rocket testing during WWII and the Cold War.

Watch the sunset at Szczecin Lagoon

The Szczecin Lagoon connects Usedom to the Baltic Sea and is the perfect backdrop for a romantic sunset. Boat tours, biking and fishing are also popular activities.

Go under the sea at Zinnowitz Seebrücke

This stylish pier has been the centerpiece of the lively Heringsdorf resort since 1906. The Tauchgondel (diving capsule) allows visitors to admire the world under the sea.

Try herring pralines at Restaurant Stellwerk

Restaurant Stellwerk serves up authentic Baltic Coast dishes. Trying the herring pralines is a must: a deliciously unusual combination of smoked herring and dark chocolate!

Take a seat in the XXL Strandkorb

Germany’s Baltic Sea coast is dotted with popular "beach baskets": cute and cushioned wicker chairs. The XXL Strandkorb version is 20 feet long and seats up to 90 people.

See Schmetterlingsfarm Trassenheide butterfly farm

The Schmetterlingsfarm Trassenheide is Europe’s largest butterfly farm. The impressive collection of butterflies and insects is a truly uplifting experience.

Ostsee Therme: a bathing oasis

FAQs about hotels in Usedom

Sandy Beaches And Spa Towns

The sunniest of all Baltic Sea islands, Usedom, is a popular resort with sandy beaches, green forests and scenic towns. Its larger, German section features natural reserves, historic sites and plenty of relaxation opportunities.

Start at one of the region’s most popular resorts, Ostseebad Zinnowitz, a lovely spa town with a long beach and a pier, where you can admire romantic sunsets and if you’re up early enough, coulourful sunrises.

South of ZInnowitz, there are 3 of the most-visited tourist destinations of the area, called the Dreikaiserbäder or “Three Emperor Baths”: Bansin, Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck. Historically, these were a favourite getaway for German emperors and they now attract thousands of people with their clean beaches and fresh air.

From simple relaxation in the sun to more active pastimes like hiking, fishing or 4x4 driving, Usedom is a place to truly catch a breath in the warm summer breeze. If you fancy, you can just pop over the Polish border and visit the island’s largest city, Świnoujście, a seaport city with the popular Deep Sea Fishing Museum and a thriving nightlife.

Whether you’re looking for a 4-star hotel, a family apartment or a cosy guest house, visit Booking.com and check the special Usedom hotels’ offers.

I've been going there since 2006.

I've been going there since 2006. It's a little patch of paradise that I look forward to visiting every couple of years. Very clean, lively, family friendly and safe. They've done lots of work over the years to make a wonderful promenade as well. The beach is always clean and visitors do their part to keep it that way. And the beach bars outrank the beach bars on the German side of the border (Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf) any day of the summer!

Ahlbeck is a beautiful, small town with just the right number of facilities (shops, restaurants and hotels) that provide the visitor with everything they need whilst still retaining its character. Spotlessly clean, like most of Germany, it sets the standard for how we should respect nature. When the beaches in southern Europe become unbearably hot, head north for sea breezes and warm, sunny days.

Sand on the beach is great - and the beach is huge.

Sand on the beach is great - and the beach is huge. Water seemed clean. Prices are expensive, but not extortionate, when compared with other touristy parts of Poland. It is a relaxed place, with 70+% of the visitors being from Germany. The average age of the tourists seemed higher than average for a beach resort. There are ample restaurants and cafés, an adventure 'line park' for children (maybe adults too, I'm not sure), some good sporting facilities. Also, ample shops, like Lidl, Żabka. I saw a railway station not too far from the beach. The last stage of reaching the town is interesting, because there is a long tunnel under the river/estuary, and a couple of ferries; and you need to check times to see what is working when.

The property was not in Ahlbeck.

The property was not in Ahlbeck. It was quite a way away in Polish Usedom. It is right on the promenade across from the Radisson.Everything around there is very expensive. On the German side they charge €3.30 for a Kurkarte which is a tax to use the beach. If you don't have it with you you will be fined! The biting bugs are terrible. Either bugs or a cold wind covering you with sand.I got a "warning" for not displaying a Parking Disc. The warning asked for €20. I would avoid the beach in Germany. Much better experience anywhere else.
