Truly, about as close to heaven on earth as you can get, and I can be unnecessarily picky about hotels. The chateau is beautiful and perfectly kept. Everything is in excellent taste. The beds were incredibly comfortable (including the sofa bed in our adjoining room), and everything was sparkling clean. The owners are so perfect: friendly and so helpful, easy to find; nothing is too small for them to help with, yet they are discreet and leave you to enjoy the place if you don't have any requests. The grounds are enormous, full of trees and statues. We even saw deer several times, as well as two gorgeous husky dogs that belong to the owner (but keep their distance if you want them to--very well behaved and so adorable). Also, there's a pool, and our room had a jacuzzi tub. Breakfast included eggs laid by chickens kept on the property. And for the price--truly, it's an absolutely incredible deal. Just the perfect trip from Paris, or really from anywhere! With 8 rooms, as well, it's very peaceful and relaxing. I can't say enough good things about the Chateau du Boulay Morin!

We loved our ocean facing room. Our second room was okay but across the building and down the hall. I was hoping to be closer to our second room (our kids are 8 and 13). We had to get 2 rooms because they didn’t have quads available. For Europe, the rooms were a good size. We were on the 6th floor and had a balcony off each room (please note they are lovely, but you can’t fit a chair on them like many balconies in Europe). Coffee was good and location is awesome. On the beach (you have to cross one road and you’re on the boardwalk). Every restaurant and cafe is walking s Distance and the Bac is just steps away. Beds were very comfortable. The older, stylish lady was lovely at every interaction at reception. She was very happy and helpful.

We stayed here for 5 days four nights. It was a great location. We could walk for ice cream or dinner everyday and every night. I went to the beach often and found seaglass and really pretty stones. We had a couple massages that were great. We enjoyed the upstairs patio where we could lay out and read our books. The bartenders are very friendly and enjoyed having a drink every night.

We stepped back in time in a castle straight out of a fairy tale. Amazing staff in the perfect location to see and enjoy Mont St. Michel. We wanted to best view, which required us to stay on the fourth floor. This was not a problem for us but there is no elevator. We will definitely choose this hotel during our next visit!

Two thousand half-timbered buildings through the city centre...

Two thousand half-timbered buildings through the city centre peppered with gothic stone churches and the Cathedral; many pedestrianised roads, little central traffic. An overwhelming variety and number of places to eat, so a different joy every evening. The art gallery (Beaux Arts) superb, welcoming, free, feels friendly, accessible and just the right size; cool in the heat, dry in the wet and free toilets. Cafe closed when we went but still had the seating available. Joan of Arc experience in the archbishops palace uses original sources to recreate virtually her second trial at which she was posthumously pardoned. Lots of information and not too scary. And it didn’t blame it all on the English! A sound and light show on the front of Rouen cathedral free every night in the summer and well attended but not crushed. The city itself is the experience and visitors felt welcomed.

The Abbeys are stunning, the town is flat so easy to walk around. There are regular markets, the Sunday one we went to was quite big with lots of fresh food. The harbour is a nice spot with a line of bars and restaurants nearby, my favourite being an Irish bar (O'Donnells) for a well kept pint (or three) of Guinness!

Breathtakingly beautiful, with fantastic views everywhere, a relaxed pace of life and warm and peaceful culture. We came for the Boudin Museum and were not disappointed. What a fantastic collection and how beautifully curated! That this was also the birthplace of Eric Satie, was astonishing. The little ethnographic museum was delightful, and St. Catherine's church unique and extremely interesting.

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.

A mesmerizing place that provides delights at every turn. This place is not recommended for people with mobility issues. Not only is it geared for people with the stamina to climb stairs and rather steep roads but the oppressive crowds make maneuvering, even for the able-bodied, difficult. Particularly avoid visiting in July and August, if you must gear your visit to the early morning or the evening when the tour bus crowds are away.

Chateau museum closed Monday and Tuesday. 6.5 euro admission charge, but worth visiting. Lovely 12-14 century church free to visit. Motor boat rides from the harbour approx 14 euros for about 45 mins out and back, but commentary only in French. Moules frites from about 15 euros at many restaurants. Cheap hot dog and burger stalls along the beach from 3.50 for a hot dog in french bread.

The cliffs of Étretat are spectacular and definitely worth a visit, but note that lots of other people think that too! So there are crowds of people, tourists from all over the world in this small seaside town. Parking is difficult to find or you have to park 1,5 km away from the town center.

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry comes in. The town itself is long from east to west, spreading out from the harbour. From north to south it is much smaller. The harbour area and the promenades are worth walking around and the central area at the Place Charles de Gaulle is the best area to relax in. It's also the ideal town from which to see other nearby attractions, such as a D-Day beach, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont-St-Michel, all of which I visited. One word of warning - the French railway service isn't the best. The trains are subjected to many cancellations and delays and the ticket machines in the stations frequently refuse to give you a ticket! Railway problems aside, the town of Cherbourg and other parts of Normandy are worth a holiday and I'm so glad I went.
