Two thousand half-timbered buildings through the city centre...
Two thousand half-timbered buildings through the city centre peppered with gothic stone churches and the Cathedral; many pedestrianised roads, little central traffic. An overwhelming variety and number of places to eat, so a different joy every evening. The art gallery (Beaux Arts) superb, welcoming, free, feels friendly, accessible and just the right size; cool in the heat, dry in the wet and free toilets. Cafe closed when we went but still had the seating available. Joan of Arc experience in the archbishops palace uses original sources to recreate virtually her second trial at which she was posthumously pardoned. Lots of information and not too scary. And it didn’t blame it all on the English! A sound and light show on the front of Rouen cathedral free every night in the summer and well attended but not crushed. The city itself is the experience and visitors felt welcomed.Guest review byBryonyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The Abbeys are stunning, the town is flat so easy to walk around. There are regular markets, the Sunday one we went to was quite big with lots of fresh food. The harbour is a nice spot with a line of bars and restaurants nearby, my favourite being an Irish bar (O'Donnells) for a well kept pint (or three) of Guinness!Guest review byRaymondUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Breathtakingly beautiful, with fantastic views everywhere, a relaxed pace of life and warm and peaceful culture. We came for the Boudin Museum and were not disappointed. What a fantastic collection and how beautifully curated! That this was also the birthplace of Eric Satie, was astonishing. The little ethnographic museum was delightful, and St. Catherine's church unique and extremely interesting.Guest review byCaraveli - 6.0

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Wonderful place full of good restaurants.
Wonderful place full of good restaurants. Of course the tapestry is a must when it’s there. Also the cathedral is very impressive and the Overlord Museum and the British War Cemetery just across the road.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0
A mesmerizing place that provides delights at every turn.
A mesmerizing place that provides delights at every turn. This place is not recommended for people with mobility issues. Not only is it geared for people with the stamina to climb stairs and rather steep roads but the oppressive crowds make maneuvering, even for the able-bodied, difficult. Particularly avoid visiting in July and August, if you must gear your visit to the early morning or the evening when the tour bus crowds are away.Guest review byAndrewUnited States - 8.0
Chateau museum closed Monday and Tuesday.
Chateau museum closed Monday and Tuesday. 6.5 euro admission charge, but worth visiting. Lovely 12-14 century church free to visit. Motor boat rides from the harbour approx 14 euros for about 45 mins out and back, but commentary only in French. Moules frites from about 15 euros at many restaurants. Cheap hot dog and burger stalls along the beach from 3.50 for a hot dog in french bread.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The cliffs of Étretat are spectacular and definitely worth a visit, but note that lots of other people think that too! So there are crowds of people, tourists from all over the world in this small seaside town. Parking is difficult to find or you have to park 1,5 km away from the town center.Guest review byIEVAGermany - 8.0

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry comes in. The town itself is long from east to west, spreading out from the harbour. From north to south it is much smaller. The harbour area and the promenades are worth walking around and the central area at the Place Charles de Gaulle is the best area to relax in. It's also the ideal town from which to see other nearby attractions, such as a D-Day beach, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont-St-Michel, all of which I visited. One word of warning - the French railway service isn't the best. The trains are subjected to many cancellations and delays and the ticket machines in the stations frequently refuse to give you a ticket! Railway problems aside, the town of Cherbourg and other parts of Normandy are worth a holiday and I'm so glad I went.Guest review byCLIVEUnited Kingdom
