We chose to eat in for dinner, and the first night’s meal was excellent. The host had to be away from the hotel the next day so the meal was not of the same standard, but we would eat in again on a future visit.

New ZealandWe loved everything! We chose the Zen room which was wonderfully large with all the furnishings you might need. There was a desk, a bench, loads of pillows and cushions. and I loved the low armchairs, the perfect height for bending over to tie your shoes. The huge, round bathroom was really special, I loved the idea of it being in the tower. There was so much care and thought to the comfort of guests, every little thing was available. The grounds are so peaceful, it’s a real escape. But still close enough to everywhere for taking in the sights. The best of all was Laurie, the manager. She was always available, made us feel superbly pampered, she worked so hard to ensure we didn’t want for anything. The email she sent me on arrival was invaluable with information and tips on the area - what to see, where to eat, and so on. We loved the Dordogne and if we come back, we’d love to stay here again!

The location is good.
Some of the sites and museums are within walking distance. Easy walking.
It takes time walking from the train station to get to the location because out of season there isn't bus service, and taxis are hard to get.
The employees and receptionist are helpful and kind.
They agreed to look after my luggage untill the time of my train.
It is a 5 - 10 minute walk from a supermarket and petrol station for those who need it.
There is a good size rack to dry washed clothes.
They have washing machines on the premises to use with payment by credit cards.

Whilst the Hotel is in two parts, the breakfast taken by the pool area and dinner in the main building, so there is a short walk between the two, choose what rooms you book.
Best part was the staff, both reception and waiting staff, the grounds and peacefulness of the village and area. BUT the chef is exceptional, we ate both a la carte and demi pension and the choice and quality of the food was superb.

Great location and a wonderful Chateau, modernized facility and most romantic room as we stayed at the Chateau , the restaurant is a chef one and the food is delightful , wonderful wine selection along with local gourmet dishes. Service and staff all speak English and most welcoming to assist in any way.

Everything was fantastic. This is one of our favourite places that we stayed on our holiday (and there were many of them!) Our treehouse was quiet, very well appointed and spotlessly clean. The hosts were lovely and the breakfasts were a perfect addition, generous for the price.

The hotel and grounds were exquisite. Everything was finished to a very high standard. Our room was lovely, even if a little small. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom very attractive. The hotel had free loaner e-bikes that we used to explore the surrounding area.

Sarlat is a wonderful place. Everyone we met were friendly.
Sarlat is a wonderful place. Everyone we met were friendly. The restaurants were excellent. My only complaint are the dogs! The French are lousy dog owners. The dogs are allowed to relieve themselves anywhere, and, the owners make no effort to clean it up. Walking down the main shopping street in the old town can be an adventure.

We loved the narrow streets, with bars and bistros everywhere. The cathedral is a very striking building, and can be seen from long distances. We enjoyed the markets, and the general atmosphere of the town. We felt safe walking round.

Boulazac has commercial trading estates which are useful for accessing supermarkets and petrol stations but not for tourists unless the accommodation is found on the outskirts where there are quiet and tranquil residential areas and semi-rural locations to be enjoyed. It is, however, very close to Perigueux with its tourist attractions and gastronomic cuisine. It is also well placed for visiting the Dordogne and all of its attractions by car.

Montignac is a lovely old town on the Vezere river that offers a more relaxed and less frantic sojourn in the Dordogne area. The town has a wide range of bars and restaurants and is a joy to walk with bridges giving access to both banks of the river.

Chancelade is great for shopping, lots of retail. Its close to Perigueux which is a big city with a great old pedestrian area with good restaurants. The Indian Curry restaurant, Chez Manija, was good with terrific service. If you want spicy food you have to order Xtra spicey.

There are several interesting sites to visit within a short distance- an excellent Roman museum, a large number of prehistoric cave sites, and an impressive cathedral. Saturday morning market in Perigueux is very interesting; and there are good cycling opportunities starting from the hotel

Sarlat-la-Caneda has been a great choice as the base of my stay in Dordogne. It is central and well equipped offering various tours in the region and access to superb restaurants in town and in its vicinity, like La Belle Etoile and Le Presidial to name two. I took three half-day tours to explore the villages of Dordogne, the Rocamadour, and the Lascaux caves with expert guides. I enjoyed all of them to the full. This has been one of my best solo trips!
