Love this place, the hotel is nice and cozy with clean large family room for our family of 5. It is located 2mins walk to the town of Bourton on Water, which is beautiful and scenic. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Both meals were really delicious. We would love to stay there again.

We loved staying at the Market Tavern in Bampton! Sean greeted us, checked us in and helped with bags. He also made sure we had a dinner reservation which we appreciated. Sean was especially helpful & all service and staff were excellent! We walked the Downton Mile which was our main purpose for staying in Bampton. We drove to Highclere Castle for our tour, which was about an hour drive. But I'm so glad we chose to stay at Market Tavern in Bampton for two nights. We loved the coziness of the Market Tavern, totally enjoyed sitting in the lobby for drinks too!

FAQs about hotels in Cotswolds

The Quaint Heart of England

One of England’s most quaint areas, the Cotswolds are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with rolling hills interspersed by picturesque villages with limestone buildings.

From Cirencester to Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold to Stroud, the laidback lifestyle makes this area a great choice for an escape to the country. Booking.com has some fabulous accommodation and, of our range of Cotswolds hotels, luxury and budget alternatives are covered in equal measure.

The largest place is Cheltenham, a wonderful Regency spa town. Neighbouring Gloucester has some well-preserved medieval buildings and an impressive cathedral. Some of the most photographed medieval Cotswolds sights are the Arlington Row almshouses in Bibury. To the east beautiful Burford has a high street going up a hill, Burford Priory country house and the large Cotswolds Wildlife Park just south.

More feathered friends are found in Birdland Park at Bourton-on-the-Water, a lovely village with low bridges spanning its river. Forming a triangle with it are Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Norton, whose former mill and almshouses are worth a look. Broadway to the north-west has a main street in the shade of hills, one of which has a tower from where it’s said you can see 13 English counties!

Wherever you decide to stay, check Booking.com for great Cotswold hotel deals.

Staff was wonderful! Five stars and more! Took extra time to give us an historical tour, showing us Oliver Cromwell's alleged musket holes on the ancient front door and other oddities and delights. Drove our rental car to our room so we wouldn't have to search for it. Made us feel relaxed, welcome, and comfortable. Enjoyed the meals, the pool, and the lovely common areas. My 8 year old daughter and I loved playing chess and drinking tea and hot chocolate while eating dessert in the beautiful lounge, with Katherine Parr's portrait peering down at us. We traveled for a month in the UK and France, and this was our favorite hotel. So much to see and do: swimming, hiking, lounging. My daughter was obsessed with the full-size chess board outside, although we didn't have time to play that set. Compared to where we live in N CA, this place was also a remarkable value! We paid $350 which included the breakfast (there's a wonderful buffet in addition to the hot breakfast), and a 110 pound dinner allowance. You couldn't stay in a Courtyard for that where we live.

I’ve roved around the Cotswolds since my University days there many years ago. So many villages, towns to enjoy , they all share a unique charm and rural beauty .. the yellow cream hues glisten in sunlight.. equally never dull in cloudy days. A strong sense of history is ever present.. held together by Church , Town Hall , Cottage Mansion .. architecture.. no litter, no graffiti.. Chipping Campden mostly encapsulates all of these qualities.

Going into Stroud is not worth all the fuss and hassle.

Going into Stroud is not worth all the fuss and hassle. The multiple roundabouts pose a challenge to even seasoned drivers. The Five Valleys shopping centre is on multiple levels. I entered at the top level and it was a guessing game to find my way out if this three dimensional maze. I eventually zig-zagged my way down to the ground floor and out, wondering where the signs were. It was similarly a challenge to find Tesco Extra. On the positive side, Rodborough Common affords very beautiful views.
