The pub is so picturesque dating back to 1600’s. The staff were so friendly and the meals were excellent. A big asset is free parking in a private carpark across the road. It’s a perfect place to see the sights.

What a great location! We stopped here on the first night of our Road Trip and it was one of the highlights of the trip. The location is outstanding and great for people who love hiking. We ate in the restaurant and the food was really good. My kids enjoyed everything about the place. After I left I realised I had left my wedding ring in the room and was already in Devon at this point. They kindly arranged to post it to my home address asap and didn't even want me to pay for postage. Fantastic stay and very nice staff. Beds super comfy

FAQs about hotels in Dorset

Southern English Natural Charm

With one of the highest proportions of conservation areas in England, the Dorset County includes 2 ‘Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ covering more than half of its territory. It is also famous for the ‘Jurassic Coast’, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that actually represents three-quarters of the county’s coastline.

Considering that half of the population lives in the south-east of the county, Dorset is characterised by an enchanting countryside atmosphere. Languid limestone hills and clay valleys cover a big part of its surface. Loads of Dorset hotels and inns are spread throughout this area.

Shaftesbury is one of the most picturesque towns, rolling down the hill with old rural houses. A visit to the chief town of Dorchester and its County Museum is a must. Check out some of the Dorset boutique hotels located in old refurbished manor houses, and spread throughout the county.

The Jurassic Coast runs along 155 km. It includes magnificent formations like the Lulworth Cove and the Durdle Door arch, plus the Isle of Portland with Chesil Beach and its large tidal lagoon.

The cities of Weymouth, Poole, Bournemouth, and Christchurch are located along its coasts. Experience this charming piece of England, don’t miss the Booking.com special offers for Dorset hotels.

It was great to walk along the Cob at the harbour - as made famous in French Lieutenant's woman. Evening brought sunset over the harbour. Very good range of shops - from standards like Fatface to arty and crafty ones. Good walks along this bit of Jurassic coast.

Nice little town with quite a few places to eat and drink. Also very interesting Museum with lots of history. A plaque on a wall stated on that spot on Sept 5th 1732 nothing happened. 1732 Britain changed from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar, so we had to lose 11 days, Sept 4th was followed by Sept 16th, bit of trivia there.

I liked the setting very much. Riverside was lovely. Bit difficult for me to comment on food etc, as I only stayed one night for rest, as flying from Bournemouth airport early the next morning. Would certainly recommend the hotel for that reason as it was a short drive.
