Friendly and helpful staff, rooms were decorated very nicely and modern, we were stopping for a short city break for our minimoon and the staff even wrote us a little congratulations welcome note which was a nice touch. Breakfast was fantastic with a good choice of English and Continental options. Being in the city centre was great and easy to walk around and get to places.

We really enjoyed the location, the warm atmosphere of the hotel when you step trough the front door, the warm welcome by staff and the exceptionally clean rooms. We pre-booked our tabel at the restaurant in the hotel online. We really loved the menu and we enjoyed well excecuted and delicious dinners. I recommend that you have the lamb shank and mash. I had it twice :)

We had an amazing stay! The room was beautiful with lovely décor, and the bed was super comfortable. The staff were very attentive—our host upgraded us to a suite and surprised us with port wine and cookies, which we really appreciated. The woman who decorated the room with balloons, flowers, and birthday cards for my fiancé went above and beyond—far more than the few balloons I asked for. We’ll definitely stay here again when we’re back in Bristol!

FAQs about hotels in England

The Small Country with Big Appeal

For a relatively small country, England certainly manages to pack in a wealth of tourist attractions, from Land’s End all the way to Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Words can’t do justice to the capital London - an exciting mix of famous sights, royalty and vibrant life. Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are fabulous cities that have emerged from their industrial past to be cutting-edge centres of culture.

Newcastle, Leeds and Bristol are well known for their buzzy music scene, while sedate Oxford and Cambridge are famous for their universities and punting. Stately York still maintains its city walls and Windsor has the wonderful castle where the Queen often resides.

Sheffield and Derby border the magnificent Peak District, while the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are close to Blackpool, one of England’s favourite beach destinations. Other very popular beaches are in Brighton, Eastbourne, Torquay and Scarborough.

With a beautifully rugged coastline, mystical Cornwall has England hotels in the country, as do the Cotswolds where stone houses line picturesque villages. The Georgian spa cities of Bath and Harrogate also have impressive stone architecture.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what England has to offer, but wherever you visit, you can be sure that Booking.com has a fantastic range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in England to choose from.

I arrived at 9pm and checked in very quickly and easily. Everyone I met was very polite and friendly. The entrance, lobby, mezzanine and terrace/balcony (on a sunny day) are quite stunning. My room was spotlessly clean and very spacious, with a fridge, Tassimo machine, kettle, tea bags, etc, a sofa and a coffee table. Wifi was free, fast and reliable. Bathroom was bright and spacious. View from my 2nd floor window was so beautiful on a sunny morning with the beach, waves, lighthouse. Apart from some squeaky floorboards (understandable in such an old building) and occasional seagulls, there was no noise from neighbouring rooms or traffic or anything. I loved it there and would visit again and again given the chance. Loved Scarborough too.

It is just another big UK city, but the Christmas shopping was great and the food stalls were a good experience. We also enjoyed the Christmas street market. The ticket conductors at the train station were super helpful and friendly and as long as you have internet access and Google Maps loaded on your phone, it is quite easy to get around. I can't think of a single positive thing to say about the place. Clearly designed by several people with a grudge against humanity. It was like winning the 5th prize in a village fete = one night in Birmingham. Actually, there is far less to Birmingham than meets the eye. I'd sooner be boiled in my own urine than be forced to go back.

We stayed in York for our honeymoon during the Christmas markets, and it was absolutely fantastic. The city feels magical at that time of year – the historic streets, festive lights, and the atmosphere around the markets made it feel really special and memorable. There are so many great places to eat and drink, from cosy pubs to excellent restaurants, and everywhere we went the food and service were spot on. York is very walkable, full of character, and perfect for taking things at a relaxed pace while still having plenty to see and do. We also took advantage of a couple of day trips booked through GetYourGuide, which were well organised and a great way to explore beyond the city without any hassle. Overall, York was the perfect honeymoon destination – romantic, historic, festive, and full of great experiences. We couldn’t have chosen a better place and would absolutely love to return, especially at Christmas.

Access passage from Terminal 4 was extremely hard to discover, tucked away with little to no signage. Lighting in the hotel was night club like. There were no windows to the outside and it felt like a casino. It would appeal to a younger male, which I am not. Plugs for the hairdryer were not in a good spot for access to the mirror. I had to crouch on the ground while doing my hair.

Nottingham is a vibrant city with plenty of places to eat and drink and also several venues spread over the city to see various shows. The Christmas Market was a good experience too. Walks by the Trent along with all the wildlife is particularly enjoyable on a nice sunny day too. There is a good public transport system with the buses and trams.
