Lake Akan is a well conserved nature reservation. It is serene and beautiful. Akan Tsuruga Besso Hinanoza is on a different level. Its the epitome of Japanese hospitality. Technically for the price we paid, it is half board. Almost all F&B is included (except certain expensive sakes). We were offered an extensive range of wines and sake over dinner as part of the dinner package included, and dinner was exquisite. Breakfast was amazing. We had hot steaming Japanese rice with an unlimited serving of salmon roe. There was also grilled fish and lots of side dishes. Onsen in the room was lovely and the outdoor onsen at level 7 is a once in a lifetime experience!

We stayed here for 2 nights in November 2023. The Japanese-Style Twin Room - Non-Smoking - West Wing, the room was tidy, very spacious and overlook the Sea of Okhotsk. Internationl and Japanese original dish in buffet breafast and dinner. Lots of choices and very delicious dishes. There are male and female Onsen, also you can book a private Open Air Onsen Bath. Onsite Hokkaido souvenir shops for shopping and tax refunds as a big bonus. We would denfinely stay here again if we go to Shari again.

The open air onsen. The comfy lounge with daily live music. The chill out living hall with free continuous coffee and drinks. Quiet and peaceful ambiance. It's a local Japanese feeling hotel. Free big parking. We family of 5 wish we could stay forever. Will be back next year again.
Also the room is fully equipped and they so thoughtful to also include a duck tape for us to repack luggage. Never before have I seen such thoughtful management.

The staff are very helpful and accommodating. The rooms are spacious, and they are very generous of providing our sanitary supplies every day. There are a lot of activities the hotel is offering, and I just wish we had more time to try everything. The breakfast buffet is also worth the price we paid. Will surely return to this hotel again if given the chance to return to Hokkaido.

Fantastic hotel. Great onsen and lovely breakfast. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. At check in they said the room's air con was broken but offered us a different room if needed. It was winter so said it wasn't a problem. That gave us free breakfasts and a lovely gift at check out as an apology.

There was a public onsen for guests and it is free. To enter the onsen, room card and code are required. After-bath service is drinking yogurt during the day and popsicle in the night time. The convenient store just right next to the hotel. It is a short walk to JR station.

Niseko ski resorts are a gift from God. The restaurant's food was mediocre and overpriced. And the Sake Museum is misleading. The Beer Museum is somewhat uninteresting. Tannukkoji Shopping Street lacks the oomph. Next time, I'll skip the city centre and instead spend my time in Niseko, bringing my own food and wine ... ha ha

There is a special charm around Hakodate, which is infectious and friendly. Indeed one of the helpers at the station thanked me, as a tourist from the UK, for coming to Hakodate.
It isn't a big city - but by Japanese standards, but it offers a lot for the visitor.
Plenty to see and do for a few days and with the sea on both sides of the city it offers good views in almost all directions.
It is so easy to get about, although, for me, walking was ideal, it isn't too far to get to anywhere in the city.
If you do go up to Mt Hakodate, be aware that they do cram you on the cable car - called a ropeway here, so for the claustrophobic, make sure you stand at the edge. Also, just before and just after dusk is when its most popular and as they don't limit the number of people going up, it gets very very very crowded. (It is the only place I've been in Japan when the people are pushing and shoving to get views)

We went to the Zoo and also Aeon Mall Asahikawa, The Zoo was very good and big, animals were very close to us. Tickets are easy to buy online too. Aeon Mall is big and has lots of things. Can go there for 2 days at least.

Otaru is an exceptional city, an old harbor town with stunning sea views and beautifully preserved architecture. Walking through its streets, I felt transported into the past, surrounded by buildings that reflect how ancient Japanese communities lived, worked, and innovated. The hotel lobby atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The concierge and front desk staff were very polite and helpful. The rooms were clean and surprisingly big! We had the view of the forest - it was wonderful to look at when it snowed. The ski area is just beneath the hotel which made it very convenient to access. The buffet breakfast was generally good - slight variations of food options but could be better given that this is a big hotel and for what we paid for accommodation (we had better buffet breakfasts at other smaller hotels in other towns/cities). We had difficulty finding a parking space (could it be due to the Dec peak period?) and perhaps we were unfamiliar with driving during the winter season - it was pretty challenging to manoeuvre and park with all the ice sludge, sleet and snow in the carpark.
Overall, it was still a very great and wonderful experience and stay!

It's probaby the least time of the year that you should go to since it's like a ghost town. Most restaurant, resorts and activities are close or under renovation but if you like peace and quiet or your probably a local who has a car and drive around then this place is a nice place to visit. But I enjoyed the weather this time. View is always beautiful and admirable. One of the best places I've been to in my lifetime.

Enjoyed the numerous onsen pools especially the open-air onsen pools. Buffet was good but would be better to extend the breakfast hours to later time at around 10am to 11am as when on holiday, we tend to sleep late and get up a bit later. Overall, good experience, will return again!

Very touristy and busy. Enjoyed the Mt. Usu Ropeway and the walk at the summit station, along the Southern Rim Trail to the lookout over Ginnuma Crater. Panoramic views from the Silo Observation Deck.
