Insomnia KYOTO was truly one of the highlights of our short trip to Kyoto! Very helpful and friendly staff, eager to answer to all of our questions about sightseeing, place to eat, etc. The room was comfortable, clean, with lots of amenities. A huge plus was the all day buffet with snacks and drinks in case you wanted to hang out at the hotel. I totally recommend Insomnia for staying in Kyoto!

I would rate this stay an 11. We initially booked for a hostel that was much more expensive and it was simply not for us. Lucky for that as we quickly found this hotel and it was one of this nicest and most fun stays we’ve had in Japan. The entire staff from the welcome from Umi, Honey and Naomi to the amazing breakfasts we had with the Chef, Adrian, Cody and Kami, to the evening conversations we had at their bar with Tom and Pierre - what an incredibly fun experience. The rooms were really spacious, the breakfast and coffee was delicious (we did not pay for a pre-paid option) and the location was really good. Near the train, near Nishiki Market, a quick train or cab ride to Kyoto Station. Would definitely stay again next time we are in Kyoto and look forward to this company opening other hotels in other cities.

The property is brand new, wonderful design and facilities are immaculate. Even tho they just opened 4 months ago the staff is impeccable, well trained and organized, very attentive and ready to help. Our room at the 4th floor was very spacious and just perfect. Gym, pool and spa a sanctuary that I really enjoyed during our 4 days at the property. Food and dining experience in the property are top notch as well.

There are so many things to like about this hotel: - Price is right for what it offers. - Staff are extremely helpful and kind. - Location is walking distance from the nearest subway station and the shopping district. - Two coin laundries on the 1st Floor. - Room contains everything that we needed for our one week trip. - Lounge is opened to all guests on the 2nd Floor from 12:00 to 22:00 for free refreshments (photos shared are of that area). - As an added bonus, they allowed us to keep our luggage at the hotel after check out so that we can do some last minute exploring before flying out at midnight.

The hotel is very well situated and well-connected as it is close to both a metro station and multiple bus stations, not to mention it being within walking distance of many central locations. The very neighbourhood it is located in is absolutely lovely, Gion being the ild geisha district full of little charming streets and historic buildings - it was a joy to explore day and night and find little hidden gems! The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the room itself was clean and very comfortable - we had everything we could need! We stayed in Kyoto for quite a while - whole 5 days, and the hotel truly felt like a mini home meanwhile. We had a wonderful time!

Everything was great and went beyond my expectations for a 2-star hotel. The rating is probably due to the fact that the reception is not open 24 hours, but that was absolutely not a problem. I arrived late at night and they provided me with all the instructions to do the self-check-in. The location is very convenient, near Kyoto Station, with plenty of dining and entertainment options within walking distance. The room was cozy and had all the necessary amenities, even more than I expected, such as make-up remover, face lotion, etc.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the main photo , it looks like a shed and I was nervous, but this hotel really is lovely! The photo is of the covered entrance with a function room, the main hotel is behind that facing the tranquil ocean! Our room was gorgeous and waking up to the sound of the gentle waves was glorious. The beds were very comfortable and the room was incredibly spacious. The hot spring was lovely too! Wished we’d stayed longer.

We were lucky with a last minute deal on booking.com and were so pleasantly surprised with what we received. Amazing! Great space, comfortable, clean and comfortable excellent amenities. They held our bags so we could explore the next day and were always more than helpful at the front desk. Breakfast was incredible! The welcome drink was a really nice touch

We have been to Kyoto before, during Cherry Blossom season. The number of tourists was physically overwhelming, mentally exhausting and, at times, potentially dangerous. It was very nice to re-visit the popular sights without, literally, millions of people crowding the street and thousands of Instagrammers cluttering up the views with their vapid, narcissistIc posturing.

Miyazu which includes Amanohashidate, is one of three natural sites in Japan. The land bridge spans across the sea is fun to view from the observation points (on both sides) and you can actually bike (20 minutes) or walk (50 minutes) one way across. A small town with lots of charm and beauty.

The staff was awesome! They did everything in their power to ensure I had a pleasant stay. Room is extremely small by US standards! Room could use a microwave, the only one available was on the ground floor and I was on the 7th.

Kameoka is the starting point of the famous and historical Hozu River rafting ride that takes you to Arashiyama, home of the famous bamboo forest. Enjoy the rafting, enjoy Arashiyama and take the train back to Kameoka. Hotel is a 5 minute walk from the station. A perfect day.

Gionmachi is a wonderful section of Kyoto and offers much to see and experience. It is easy, maybe 15 to 20 minutes taxi to other areas of Kyoto that are also beautiful, historical and traditional. Overall, this is a place I would come back to because I have much more to see.

Historical and beautiful. Transportation is easier to navigate than other city and food are also great. Considering to visit all temple and collecting the Goshuin -> that took a lot of time :) Considering an option of 1 day Kyoto bus and subway for 1100¥ is a great option for unlimited ride. Day trip to INE is worth also consider but be aware of weather in Dec, can be tricky. Also mostly place in INE is seems to be open on weekend. I was here in Kyoto for foliage and found what I wanted. Still a lot of place couldn't see but let's the next time visit to reclaim.

I especially recommend it to travelers from overseas. If you are sightseeing in Kyoto, Nara, or Osaka for a few days, staying at this facility and using Kameoka as your base will be the best way to travel to Kansai. Like taking a day trip from your home. If your schedule is 2 nights and 3 days or 3 nights and 4 days, it is definitely a good deal even if you add transportation expenses. You can't stay in a house in Kyoto or Nara.

I loved this hotel!!! The service was outstanding. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The location was perfect - close to town but not in town. We walked everywhere and felt very safe. Close to the train station as well. I will certainly stay here on my next trip to Kyoto.

The Japanese culture, the Japanese put there respect for their country and fellow citizens ahead of their own personal needs. No garbage, no cigarette buts on the streets, no talking on mobile phones in restaurants or on transit. The rest of the world should learn respect from the Japanese.
