JapanI stayed here once during ski season last year and had such a great time that I decided to stay again this year when I visited Myoko.
The lodge has been stylishly renovated, and the dining area in particular is a great place to relax while taking in the view.
The tatami rooms are equipped with cute low tables, giving them a Japanese feel.
The futons and pillows are also comfortable, making for a great night's sleep.
The loungewear provided in each room was very comfortable, and my friend liked it so much that she researched where to buy some when she got home!
There are also separate large public baths for men and women, allowing us to relax and unwind.
The staff were also very helpful and kind when we needed assistance.
During ski season, the lift to the gondola is right across the lodge, making this the perfect location for skiing and snowboarding.
There are only a few restaurants open within walking distance during winter time. Most of them are owned by a Australians.

Japow House is amazing for your stay in Akakura! Miyu and Kimi are so friendly and helpful and are happy to help with transfers from Myoko. Located a short walk (although up a bit of a hill but good to get you warmed up for the day) away from the main part of town, Japow House provided a comfortable place to rest after a day up the mountain. Their new showers are amazing and were so nice to come back to after a day at the snow. Brekky was delicious, nutritious and varied each day, rooms were comfy, warm, spacious. Dry room and all facilities clean and tidy.

Amazing location, staff members welcoming all the time, and the views are from another time.
Onsen open almost 24h so i get to see the sunrise while i was inside the onsen, just beautiful.
I took Japanese breakfast, even tho i'm not used to that and it was also really good.

Myoko is an incredible region of fun, the mountains offer heaps of ski resorts with fantastic runs, lessons, places to dine and sit with a hot beverage or refreshen beer or sake. Its wonderful for both families and those who are daring to hit the slopes for thrills. The hotel shuttles, local buses and taxis make travel from resort to various slopes, very easy. The locals are exceptionally helpful and friendly.

The snow in Myoko is otherworldly.
The snow in Myoko is otherworldly. The powder is unimaginably great and really loved visiting Seki Onsen Ski Area. It's a small, family-owned ski area run by the Inoue Family who are the kindest and most hospitable people you'll find anywhere in Japan. Family-owned and run ski areas are in decline with large corporations buying up ski areas across Japan, so it was a real treat to ski at an area where the snow was perfect and you're supporting a local business. 10 our 10 for Seki Onsen Ski Area!

Ski areas vary considerably in the area. Akakura Onsen has absolutely the worst lifts i have experienced in Japan. When they weren't broken down they were extremely slow.
On the other hand Suginohara has a new gondola and modern 'high' speed lifts. This was the pick of the mountains to ski for me.
