The valley is beautiful and the hotel itself looks cozy and authentic. All the facilities were great and the views from rooms and onsens were incredible. All the stuff as well as the owner were very welcoming and courteous. And the owner beautifully sang us local song. Overall it was pleasant and relaxing experience, that we will remember for long.

Sakaide Grand Hotel is a large hotel near the harbour area of Sakaide. The hotel - as well as most of Sakaide itself - has a bit of Showa-romance felling. The rooms are largend the breakfast is great! There is a public bath on the third floor, but upon arriving you may be given a ticket for the nearby large public bath, where most of the towns people seem to go in the evening.

I enjoyed the big room and the view over the Seto Inland sea. The bathroom was well-equipped and the water pressure was good, hot water did not take long.
Breakfast was both Japanese style and Western style.
Location is fine, about 800m-1km walk to JR Imabari station and the bike rental shops next to it.

have been travelling for 4 months now and this is one of the best/coolest spots weve stayed. amazing local fresh food, great dinner on demand. Owners are super nice and fluent in English and the location is just amazinf in a secluded cove/beach with a really nice onsen facing the ocean!

Perfect location less than a minute from the stairs to the shrine. Only a 10 minute walk to the train. Loads of shops line the stairs. The hotel itself was exceptional: staff, facilities, onsen, restaurant, room - all were absolutely top notch. One of our best stays in Japan!

Matsuyama is a city with a lot to offer. From the stunning views from Matsuyama castle, to the history of Dogo Onsen. It has many hidden gems in the form of cafes, traditional craft and cultural experiences and is a good jumping off point to see the rest of Ehime/Shikoku.

Takamatsu is really a great place to visit as this is the main hub when you want to travel to Setouchi islands , famous for udon , fresh sea food , Olive product, soya sauce, seasame oil too. Tons of food stuff can be bought from that area. Also lots of historic places to visit

Excellent amount of restaurants and food outlets with a great food hall at the bottom of the main shopping area.
Close to the ocean and mountains with out door pursuits like hiking and white water rafting a short train ride up the valley .

Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. If the temperatures are too hot for you, you can still see Awa Odori performances all year around. From Tokushima is also easy to reach Naruto, with its famous whirlpools.

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested...
A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights.
No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor).
And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met.
Can easily spend days just walking around the town and hidden laneways to shrines and spectacular scenery.
I will definitely come back.

I ejoyed my stay in the Kabuki theatre, where a well-knolweged guide gave a great commentary. The trip to Konpira San was interesting. You will enojoy the walk to the main builiding, the grand view of Kotohira, the souvenir stores, and the museum with old Japanese paintings and art works.

It was a fantastic lovely and cosy and traditional japanese accomodation. I recommend it for everybody! Its surrounded by the beautiful Shimantoriver for walks, biketours and swimming in the summer. The host is so friendly and helpful.

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed.
The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely!
It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. It was a respite from tourist crowds and off the beaten path.

was there for the Setouchi Triennale so Takamatsu was the ferry dep point. Ritsurin Gardens are well worth an evening stroll.. happened across a few other nice locla music events -unexpected encounters with friendly locals were a highlight. all in all not a bad place to visit..
