We did not imagine our boutique Dar La Menara would be a gem resting on the top of a hill… as the meaning for the property, truly a sunrise and sunset beacon upon Sidi Bou Said, Tunis, and The Mediterranean Ocean.
It was as though the staff were patiently awaiting our arrival, big smiles and wide open arms as Samir, Wiem, and Zainab greeted us.
Quickly we met Karim, completing the front line team, explaining the Dar, the amenities, and our glorious room. This was the end of our 16 day educational trip on Tunisia, its culture and rich history of Islam and how Tunis was and continues to be the leader in helping Africa shine bright!
Breakfast was simply adorable, just as perfect as the hotel. Every morning you are greeted with those same true smiles from Samir, Wiem, and Zainab. You have so many options to sit just about anywhere to enjoy the skyline views while you have your coffee, tea, juice, and breakfast. Whether the room, the breakfast solarium, or down by the heavenly swimming pool. Eventually you will find Mohammad running around with the other staff ensuring everything is in tip top condition!!! And of course, the chief Murad is working hard to make sure everything is business as usual, will always make time for good conversation, and just like his team, he has plenty of valuable information to share about Tunis.
Must not forget to mention the amenities… the cleanliness is so comforting after a busy trip and many hot temperature days! The housekeeping staff such as Taouse always around to ensure your room was quickly tidied up within a blink of an eye, she is so quick and amazing!
The local bus, and train are barely 7 minutes walking distance from the property. The transit system is old… but it works, it’s adorably affordable, and the passengers are all helpful to ensure you are going in the right direction!

The location is fine and close to all major attractions and necessary nearby services. The hotel rooms were clean and tidy even the breakfast options were good value.
Highly recommend a stay in this hotel if you're passing by Tunis, especially given it's near the aeroport and allows for all travelers to skip the pre-stress flight process.

The indoor pool and spa / relaxation area are also really nice. The hotel is beautiful, spotless, and decorated with great taste. Breakfast was excellent and the staff provided great restaurant recommendations. I would definitely return!

Indeed,it’s a wonderful hotel! We had a warm welcoming me and my family, especially from Mr. Islam and the beautiful Mrs. Sawsen (the lady in red. They were very helpful and caring all the time. Honestly we felt that we were at home not a hotel. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The room service was great and on time. The breakfast was super delicious and had many varieties. The location is great and it’s very close to everything. In brief I can say this is a 5***** hotel overall. I highly recommend it, and it will be my first choice especially during business trips.

Also breakfast was very nice ,especially- I tried for the first time in my life pomegranate jam ( try to buy it from them… if they sell it , coz I couldn’t find it elsewhere where ,I wanted to bring it with me back home for my fiancé)

Absolutely lovely property located in THE prime location in Sidi Bousaid. The rooms are beautifully decorated with high-end bedding and extremely comfortable beds. The included continental breakfast is beautifully presented with excellent coffee. All of the staff is as professional as they are gracious. We will return without hesitation!

The staff is absolutely wonderful. The rooftop pool and restaurant have an amazing view. Very tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. The bathroom in the rooms are fantastic! The shower head, the amazing loofah and shower gel, and the comfy robe. Loved it all.

I think three days were just right for the stay.
I think three days were just right for the stay. One day around Sidi Bou Said area, one day in the Tunis medina and one day in Bardo museum and archeological sites. I missed Bardo museum because it is closed on the Mondays. Taxi drivers try to rip off tourists as normal. Negotiate 50% or less of the asking price.

For those seeking more options, nearby La Marsa has almost everything you could need, including a small mall just a short taxi ride away—less than 15 minutes. This is an exquisitely decorated, beautful place to stay. The room was very comfortable and the staff exceptionally helpful. It is in a quiet area away from the old city which is always incredibly busy and noisy. The pool was beautuful as was the garden. There are nice places to eat nearby and historic places to visit.

Sidi Bou Saïd is a magical place full of charm and light. 🌿 The white and blue streets perched above the sea offer breathtaking views. Everything is within walking distance — you can easily explore the whole village on foot, and even reach the ancient ruins of Carthage, just 2 km away.
For food lovers, I highly recommend Dar Zarrouk and Le Bon Vieux Temps — two of the best restaurants in Tunisia, both offering delicious dishes and stunning sea views. 💙

Nice area. A lot of the shops and stuff are relatively spread out. Really nice people who genuinely help you. Taxis are a bit of a pain from the airport, as they were a little expensive to what I would have thought. However you have to bargain with them a bit.

Bed is comfortable, strong WIFI, hot water is adequate for shower, room temp is perfect for sleeping, generous breakfast and hospitality of Hakim is very much appreciated. Beyond customer satisfaction. Thank you. We really enjoyed our stay.The location is in a very safe and quiet neighborhood. Perfect for a solo traveller. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I will not hesitate to book it again if I happened to be in this country. Hakim and Carol merci beacoup.

The location of Dar Salah Bey is very good and has access to everything nearby, the house is cosy, loved the architecture and design, but the owner of the property is required to improve the facilities and kitchen equipment, like good knives for cooking, a new set of forks, spoons, and cooking tools, also provide a good iron and iron board, fix the leakage of a tap connected to the washing machine, provide new and fresh bed covers and sheets, and also provide clothes drying rack, as we struggled to dry our clothes.

Avenue Habib Bourguiba is an interesting stroll down the pedestrian centre to the clock tower.
Bardo Museum is well worth visiting. As are Carthage and Sidi Bou Said outside of Tunis.

Four Seasons is a lovely place to relax with the family.
Four Seasons is a lovely place to relax with the family. I suggest a 5 day visit so one can then plan day trips to Hammamet and Djerba as well. one could also spend 3 days at four seasons hotel and then 2 nights in Hammamet if you really want to enjoy a beach.

La marsa beach was right outside our guest house.
La marsa beach was right outside our guest house. We could walk to the main part of the beach and the shops and restaurants. We were out of season, visiting during Ramadan so it was relatively quiet. Some restaurants were not open at all, some only during the day, others only at night. We managed to find somewhere to eat every day.
I can recommend the Cliff restaurant, Pasta mi Basta (very accommodating with our friend who had various intolerances), Kenko food bar and Blu Blu (Sidi Bou). There was a supermarket which catered for our needs.
We also visited the capital Tunis and Sidi Bou Said which had lovely shops and stunning views.
