Ouarzazate is a wonderful stop on the way to Murzouga, however it would also be a nice destination. The surrounding desert is beautiful and there are many riads with pools and restaurants perfect for relaxing and unwinding. It was a wonderful place to visit after the frenzied and pushy atmosphere of Marrakesh.

Small city so easy to navigate.
Small city so easy to navigate. Taxi drivers waited for us at out of town attractions. Highlights were quad biking around film sets, hammam spa and eating home cooked food in a Berber village. All arranged by our accommodation.

The city is split into two sections, one where the tourists stay (North - Ouarzazate) and the other is where the locals stay (South - Tabounte)
We loved Ksar Ben Youssef the hotel there, it is in an area where mostly locals stay and there is a good restaurant near it called Cafe Restaurant la Montana where we ate and picked up some shopping from the petrol station shop
We also ate at Nature Food Restaurant and Pizzeria which was very well priced
Travel around Ouarzazate is easy with taxis, they typically charge about 100 Dhs from and to the airport, and about 50 for the inner city stuff (there were 5 of us) I think they charge things like this, 5 Dh + 5 Dh per kilometer per person or something close to that
The touristy area is very clean and built up quite nicely, the locals area is a little more run down but we enjoy to stay close to the locals and see how they live
We had a bad experience at Ecolodge Lile De Ourzazate, although the idea of their place is nice to have an eco friendly place, we found that it was not as advertised in ways which made our stay there unpleasant
Overall our stay in Ouarzazate was good, we visited a place called Ksar Ait Ben Haddou - if you do and its summer make sure you go in the morning or afternoon, because it is very hot around mid day. They also have some studios there and locations where they filmed the movie Gladiator which the locals are very proud of.
If we go back I would like to visit the other areas nearby such as Marzouga 300km away to check out the desert, there is also another area about 200km away which apparantly has nice oasis / lots of palm trees but I cant remember the name

Located right in between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara...
Located right in between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert - Ourzazate is a relatively new city but done up in the traditional Kasbah architecture. It’s famous for its film studios where a number of Historical films were shot. It’s a place where most tourists stay a night on their way to Merzouga (To see Sand dunes) or to Ait-Ben Haddou which is a Unesco world heritage site of one of the best maintained settlements where all houses / buildings are made of clay. Best part is the journey through Atlas Mountains from Tizin Tichka to Ourzazate on the long winded mountainous route alongside the Dra valley. Scenes are surreal and feel as if it’s on Mars given the amount of red clay you see in the mountains.
It was very peaceful sitting by the pool and enjoying the patio and beautiful plants around. The room was very spacious and comfortable - though there were some big cracks in the walls :) The staff were super kind and hospitable <3 and the breakfast was very tasty (amazing Raib). Location is not the most central but Ouarzazate is small and you can reach the main square by foot in 10-15mins and it was nice to stay in a more residential part of the town. Wish we got to spend more nights there and will definitely stay here again!
As a Morocco tour operator operating under the name "Cultural Morocco Tours," we wholeheartedly endorse *Le Temple Des Arts * as an exceptional choice for accommodation in the heart of Ouazazate. This recommendation is based on several key factors:
1. Prime Location
2 . Exceptional Staff
3 . Superlative Service
In summary, we confidently recommend Le Temple Des Arts for its outstanding location, dedicated staff, and unparalleled service, knowing that it will contribute positively to the overall experience.
Ahmad, the owner, is an amazing host. He truly cares about his guests and has always great tips about Ouarzazate and the region, a warm smile on his face and interesting life stories to share. He welcomed our family in the kindest way at his hotel. Also, I made a mistake while booking and he was very quick and accommodating on fixing it before our arrival.
We liked a lot our dinners there and the home made food (needs to be ordered in advance).
The room is very big and the shower is great.
The Riad is so nice, and our room, the deluxe suite, was like an apartment, with terrace, several rooms, huge bathroom with tub, eating area, desk and so roomy. The breakfast in the courtyard was nice, and they do serve dinner on requests. There is also a nice massage therapist (gentle swedish massage, not the typical hammam one) which is quite inexpensive for foreigners and a pool. There are many women who work at this hotel which was nice to see after mostly men driven places.
The hotel was lovely: the color schemes, the garden, the terrace, the view. It was all lovely.
The hotel staff was friendly and accomodating. A prior hotel did not have the laundry facilities it advertised and we arrived at Dar Amoudou with no clean clothing left for the morning. They washed our clothes immediately so the clothing would be dry by morning. Their kind and quick response to our situation was very much appreciated.
Wow! Wow! We weren’t planning on staying in Ouarzazate but decided to at the last minute. So glad we did, because Le Petit Riad is a gem. Excellent service and the food is truly stellar. We stayed at small riads across Morocco for three weeks and I have to say that this was among or perhaps the best food we had in all of Morocco. Absolutely book here if you get a chance!
One of the cutest boutique accommodation in Morocco.Traditional architecture with a modern twist, elegant artistic interior design, best linens, amazing breakfast and dinner by the chef of the Kasbah, nice Olive grove, long pool. We choose it mainly as a one night stop to our road trip from Marrakesh to Sahara but I wish i had booked it for more nights. Nice stuff.
The hotel is overlooking on the big square where every evening are local groups playing music. It’s a great experience to see and hear. The room was simple but clean and shower. We could park our safe in the garage. The front desk people were friendly and very helpful.. Nice breakfast. It’s great to experience the life in the town. Restaurant on the square.
amazing authentic Riad in Ouarzazate. The owner who built this Riad was tending to his garden which is quite impressive. The terrace, views, generous delicious meals and rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable. This Riad is a true gem and the staff is excellent. Omar and the team are wonderful. Our family of 4 will surely remember this Riad.
This was the best Riad we were in all our 7 day trip. It is beautiful, very comfortable and be sure that if you stay here try their dinner - Madame Jamelia cooks very, very well. It was the best Tagine we had in Morocco, with delicious rice.
The area seems very secure, and near the center (however far enough to be a calm place).
Very good location in a more quiet area of Ouarzazate. Exactly what we were aiming for. Our room had its own rooftop terrace, we enjoyed a beer here in the sunset. The hotel has its own garden and owns many relaxation areas where you can enjoy a cold drink or local Moroccan mint tea. The pool is amazing and staff is hospitable.
Good place if you need peace and quiet. Hotel service full of attention, they always ask what time to serve breakfast or dinner, and you can ask Omar for everything, who is there to help. Great hospitality! Thank You! Amazing traditional dishes - all prepared with fresh ingredients on site- the best tajin I’ve had in Morocco!
We have stayed in many riads in Morocco and this is one of the most beautiful. The location was ideal for our stopover between Merzouga and Marrakech. The staff were very helpful and kind and we had an excellent dinner. Having learned that Ryanair flies to Ouarzazate, we would be very happy to stay again for a long weekend.
EVERYTHING!!!
I feel like I must let more people know about this hotel to make sure it will not go out of biz one day:p
The staff were super helpful and friendly. The decor is a mix of Japanese and Morroco styles. The food was amazing and I seriously think they had a Michelin chef working in the kitchen.
Super nice family ambience. Incredible service. Very good relation between quality, price and experience. If you don't want a five start hotel, but you prefer a thousand star one with a real morrocan experience, go there. This has been one of the highlights of our trip. Thank you!! We will come back!!
Very nice riad with beautiful garden/patio near the entrance to Desert or Atlas, if you looking for nice stay near Ouarzazate this is top choice. Personal was very helpful and communicate in both English and French. Wifi was mediocre but it looks like standard in Maroco.
Room: Riad experience with traditional decoration.
Staff: Very friendly staffs at reception who are alway warm, welcome and helpful.
Food: Gastronomic Menu is highly recommended, so many different dishes and probably the best during our trip to Morocco.
Very kind service, Mr Houssine took care of us with an open heart, wearing proudly his red hat 🙂
The hotel is a very good option for transfer to another place in Morocco, the water was hot, room clean and warm.
I had a fantastic stay at the hotel! The rooms were spotless, and the hospitality was top-notch. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially families. Our party of 5 felt right at home.
