Don't believe the online videos or guidebooks that say that the whole of Meknes is a building site! While there is a lot of renovation going on, there are still marvelous things to see and do. The medina is very interesting and comes with very little hassling. Its worth taking a day trip - or longer - to the mid Atlas mountains.

I didn't enjoy Meknès itself that much but I would certainly recommend visiting the partially restored Roman city ruins of Volubilis. It's about a 45 mins drive up the mountains. Keep your speed limited to 60 km/h though as there are a lot of police speed traps! It costs 70 dh to enter the grounds and around 200 dh to get a guide to show you around (mine spoke excellent English).

We only stayed 1 night to see Volubulis.
We only stayed 1 night to see Volubulis. We should have stayed longer. The vendors had quality merchandise and prices were by far better than Fes and Marrakech. Our hosts were very hospitable. The room was comfortable and beautiful. This town is the real heart of Morocco.

Many attractions are covered up, undergoing constructions.
Many attractions are covered up, undergoing constructions. Not much to do here for 3;days.
Medina: alleys are dusty, lots of cats poop along the way. Cats roaming these alleys look dirty and sickly.
Better Options: Stay in Fes and just travel to Meknes for a day to see some attractions. Train ride to Meknes is only 28 dirhams one way. Option 2 - stay in a riad in Meknes for 1 day.

Relatively relaxed and hassle free.
Relatively relaxed and hassle free. A lot of renovation is going on (September 2023) so some monuments and museums are closed. The Jamai museum is excellent. Nearby Volubilis is also well worth a visit. Fez is roughly an hour away by car/bus/train so an easy day trip.

Meknes is going thorough significant change and...
Meknes is going thorough significant change and refurbishment - especially the medina and square. The souk are no longer traditional - they are markets catering to local people. The city clearly has some fantastic history and the Riad we stayed in was part of that but I didn’t see enough attraction for more than a very short visit. If you are visited Volobulis, I would recommend staying in Moulay Iddriss instead.
The property is located in the medina, its a 5 min walk from lahdim square. The host, Hassan, was amazing. As soon as we entered the Riad he was lovely and very welcoming. Explained how they operated and what was nearby, all the sightseeing places and where to go. I can say that our stay was definitely a 10/10 experience mainly because of Hassan. My friend and i went to Meknes for a wedding and came back at around 5am. Hassan made sure that we were able to enter the Riad without any fuss. Will 100% book in the future!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Beaux Arts. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my comfort, demonstrating true kindness and hospitality. The property was exceptionally clean, which gave me a sense of tranquility and made my stay more comfortable. The modern aesthetic of the hotel also enhanced the overall experience. It was a calm and serene oasis in the middle of the bustling city, providing a perfect balance for my travel needs. I'm looking forward to staying here again in the future.
The breakfast was very good nice selection. The room was very good had everything needed such as two beds, air conditioning, power plus to power your devices. The bathroom was very good in traditional style. The hotel owners Mohsin and Aziza are very nice and welcoming couple. Mohsin is very knowledgable also had some very good chats with him. He has very good english which helps in learning more about Morocco since it was our 1st time.
A HUGE thank you to our wonderful hosts - Ghizlane and Samad for their hospitality and kindness. WHAT A TREAT we enjoyed! We spend the night of the 31st of December in this beautiful Riad and could not have wished for anything better: SUPERB welcome; BEAUTIFUL rooms and AMAZING dinner. We hope to come back to Meknes in the not too distant future; we already know what our accommodation will be!
SIMPLY BRILLIANT!!
The room was enormous, which I hadn't expected. I was unfortunately unwell while staying here but the staff were really nice and helpful throughout. The breakfast was also nice - the same breakfast as we experienced at other hotels in Morocco but with an interesting porridge also. We stayed two nights and our room was cleaned in this time which was also a lovely surprise.
We liked everything about this Riad. The owners really did a great job with restoration of this old medina Riad.
Breakfast was the best that we had in Morocco. Staff was really nice and helpful. Room was amazing, the roof terrace is really beautiful with an amazing view. Our room had really nice and cozy place outside with sofa and a table.
All together was great.
This Riad is so beautiful! It’s in the Medina but is on a quiet street so it is so calm and relaxing and y he terrace was the perfect place the spend an afternoon reading.
Hassan was so welcoming and helpful and created such a lovely environment for us while we were in Meknes.
The breakfast was homemade and delicious. I would definitely stay at Riad Lahboul again!
Breakfast was tasty and served at a lovely terrace on the rooftopof the hotel. The staff were kind in accommodating us with breakfast timings, and they recommended us a parking lot before arriving (Lalla Aouda). Our room was large and the house very historic as it used to be a medresa.
The hotel is not the newest, but our room was well kept and very very clean (not really common in Morocco). The room was also very large.
Being out of the medina, the location was really easy to find and it was located close to the train station and the area is well served.
We truly had a great stay at Riad Safir which is amazingly decorated and well taken care of. We enjoyed the time when we were discovering every inch of it and we found so many hidden spots. All in all, I would recomment if you passing by Meknes !
The location is very convenient and the place is very comfortable. My go to hotel whenever im in Meknes. Im not even looking for other hotel. Special thanks to Imane from reception, very welcoming and very accomodating. She is always smiling
Just outside the Medina, this hotel borders the Royal golf course. Parking right out front if you have a car ( let them know) Nice terrace & comfortable room. Nice breakfast, and very gracious staff! Would definitely stay there again!
Breakfast was the best I’ve had in Morocco. 🇲🇦. The Hosts were so friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautiful and to top everything off they gave us a larger room as a gift. It was in a great location and so easy to find.
The breakfast was one of the more serious and bountiful hotel breakfasts I've had in a long time.
The staff got me a good deal on a day trip by private car to the Roman ruins at Volubilis nearby.
Clean room, good A/C, nice terrace,
And Breakfast is better then Other Riad that I have stayed in Morocco.
Especially staff is so helpful and always help guest.
