The retreat was just as expected—simple, clean, and peaceful. The owner is one of the nicest people I’ve met and leads optional guided meditations in the morning, which were a highlight.

I likes absolutely everything about this property! I expected it to be very ‘rustic’ considering the price but it was perfect! The rooms were super roomy (not just by Japanese standards..) and super clean and equipped with everything you might need to warm/cook your meals, comfortable beds and best of all- beautiful French doors by the kitchen table where the deer approach in the morning. The staff that was working (or manger?) was incredibly kind and helpful, giving us pointers about the area, he even pointed out an illuminated temple nearby. Made our stay extra special. Would wholeheartedly recommend!

First, our host Dzumi was wonderful! He was so kind, great to talk to and made us a delicious dinner after arriving. This place is simple, a great place to rest after a big hike. It opened recently, and is clean and modern. We loved the cottage feel with all the wood around us! The dinner choices - chicken curry and bamboo steamers were both so delicious. Breakfast buffet had a wide variety of foods and gave the option of making a sandwich for the day ahead. It had everything we needed for a quick stop. It’s also right across the river from a cafe and bar - the first place we saw after completing the Ogamotori-goe. Simple, but delightful and full of friendly staff.

We had the whole place to ourselves, and the village is incredibly peaceful—perfect for a relaxing getaway. The common areas are great and easy to use, adding to the comfort. ROKKONOMAD is situated in Kobe, 5.7 km from Mount Rokko, 8.3 km from Mount Maya, and 12 km from Emba Museum of Chinese Modern Art. The house is very clean and spacious.the view is amazing.the staff is so very helpful and even provide laundry service.my family had an episode of getting drenched from head to toe from getting caught in heavy rain but they helped us do the laundry and we used the furnace to dry our drenched shoes and coats.the skylight is also a highlight as we slept under the moonlight.highly recommended.there's not enough stars to give for their exceptional hospitality.the facilities are complete with all kitchen equipments,towels, cleaning products,they will also provide food if you need.

Taraichitei, a property with a garden, is located in Takashima, 28 km from Kehi Jingu Shrine, 34 km from Omimaiko Beach, as well as 40 km from Obama Station. It is an old style house, so as long as you aren't expecting Western/modern comforts, it's fantastic! My daughter called it the Totoro house. You will sleep on Japanese futons that you lay out on the tatami mats - if you've never slept on a futon it might feel uncomfortable/hard compared to Western beds. You will eat sitting on the tatami mats, but there are a couple of small Western chairs if sitting on the floor is difficut. The bathroom is Japanese style with the toilet in one section, the sink/vanity in a second section and the shower with separate furo (deep bathtub for soaking after washing in the shower) in the third section. It was not the most modern but all clean and more spacious than the Western hotel bathrooms we had other parts of Japan! There is a TV, wifi worked great and a bluetooth speaker to play music. There aren't a lot of "tourist" attractions nearby but it you want serenity this hits the spot - a few steps away has you walking among farming fields and the house is also close to the forest with a little stream running along side the road making for a peaceful but easy walk up the mountain. The gohan (rice) cooked in the old style stove was the best we ate our entire trip! Wish we had bought some of the local rice. It can get a little smoky when dinner is being cooked but my mild asthma was fine. The host, Hiro, is amazing, super accomodating and friendly, he introduced us to his shiba inu (dog) and his duck, and even though we didn't ask ahead, he prepped for us to make tofu - this experience was an extra fee but totally worth it! During the winter you can also request mochitsuki (pounding rice into mochi) and summer/fall you can make noodles (can't remember if he said soba, ramen or udon). Hiro's English is limited, but he's so engaging, we asked him to eat dinner with us and my daughter loved that...he has such good energy!
